The main reason for installing a new OS on a VM is so that I can fiddle about with it for a few weeks before deciding whether to install it properly on the laptop. It's not that I've decided to use Puppy, but that I need to evaluate it long term. I don't want to continually use a Live CD on the VM, and I don't want to install it prematurely on the laptop.
