Maybe I’m being a little slow but I just discovered there’s “another” repository of some rather nice Gnome software that doesn’t appear by default on vanilla Gnome installations.
sudo apt install flatpak
sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak
If you run “gnome-software” (i.e. the normal software installer) , it should now have access to a whole bunch of new Gnome applications.
As it turns out they don’t seem to have ARM64 builds at present, but for PC users there’s some interesting stuff in there, specifically I was looking at “Pika Backup”.
It’s a GUI front-end for “borg” which is something I’ve mentioned before as it’s what I use for all my backups. If anyone’s used Pika I’d be interested to hear what it’s like, it looks much better than “Vorta” which is the only other GUI client I’ve tried.
Wondering if the reason I’ve not heard of it is beceause “flatpak” is a competitor for “snap” and “snap” seems to be something Ubuntu are supporting … (?) … and I only came across this in the Debian documentation … (!)
